Geographic Databases

MarineSafety's visual simulators, located at the Newport, RI, learning center use high resolution, high performance, and textured image visual geographic databases built by MarineSafety's own database modeling group. MarineSafety has the ability to build extremely realistic versions of any harbor or geographic location, whether it is one that now exists, is in development, or is just a concept of the future. Our staff modelers, using state-of-the-art modeling software, often construct a database to meet a client's specific requirements. Each database is configured with the visuals and exact hydrodynamic and environmental conditions found at the location being modeled. Mariners on the MarineSafety staff and pilots or ships-masters familiar with the location validate every database. All of our databases include the following characteristics:

  • Correct bottom contours, water depths, currents, wind shadowing, bank cushion and suction, and pier force effects
  • Variable water depth, current and wind direction and magnitude, and time of day
  • Visual representations of actual buildings and landmarks, including all the significant navigational landmarks
  • Special visual events normally found within the specific location, such as bridge opening and closing and other visual events normally seen by the mariner
  • Accurate registration with Electronic Nautical Charts as displayed on ECDIS
  • Simulators are fully integrated with carry-on navation systems such as PilotMate and Raven

Partial List Of Existing Geographic Databases

MarineSafety may already have a geographic database for your desired location. If so, the time and cost of preparation and testing can be saved. In any case, an existing database can be modified or a new one created to your specifications.
