Bridge Resource Management (BRM) - 23 hr
USCG approved course. This three-day course with simulation provides training in the more effective management of resources available to the bridge team. It focuses on effective flow of information; requirements of the OOW; common clues available in most accidents; and how to optimize teamwork and effective decision-making. Topics include: situational awareness, communications, planning, teamwork, stress and fatigue, and relationship with pilots. Accident case studies are reviewed. Programs can be tailored to specific shipping company operations, vessels and ports. The person successfully completing the course will satisfy: (1) The requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(o) for an original license; and, (2) STCW Code Section B-VIII/2, Part 3-1 for an STCW certificate or endorsement as master or mate for vessels in ocean and near coastal service.

This course provides refresher training to Officers in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) and Masters and Chief Mates who do not have sufficient sea time to maintain their continued professional competency. Satisfies requirements of Paragraph 1.3.2 of Section A-I/11 of the STCW code for demonstration of continued professional competence for OICNW or Masters and Chief Mates on ships of 500 GT or more.

Electronic Chart Display Information Systems (ECDIS) - 32 hr
USCG approved course. This course provides training in the basic theory and operation of an Electronic Chart & Display Information System (ECDIS). It examines the use of ECDIS to enhance navigation safety and its use for practical passage planning and monitoring through the safe use of the equipment, its capabilities and limitations, and effective use of Electronic Navigation Charts (ENC) and ECDIS related information.
